Normally this horse would not lay down with a stranger taking pictures of him. I could even walk in and touch him without him rising – out of character for him. I needed to force him to get up.

Ventral edema associated with post colic surgery. There is a potential for the surgical incision to rupture causing evisceration (the abdominal contents escapes the confines of the abdomen and enters the subcutaneous space) with euthanasia a usual end result.

This abdominal bandage or belly band is used to prevent or treat herniation after colic surgery. This is where the surgical incision breaks down (dehisces) allowing the abdominal contents to slip through the muscle and move into the space between the muscle and the skin. This is life threatening which can be reduced through use of this bandage.
