The owner snapped this image of her horse who had just lost the heel of this hoof. It was very bloody. In this image a shoe has been applied to support the remaining hoof while the new hoof grows in. Note the granulation tissue (pink) which needs to be kept level to allow a new heel to form. It may actually prevent new hoof growth. I have no follow up on this case.

This horse was rescued 1 yr ago with a RH medial heel injury avulsing the hoof wall and cutting into the soft tissue of the pastern. The sheared heel is mechanical caused by the scar tissue. The horse walks with a mechanical lameness meaning the limp is not from pain.

    Top photo…left side, the “good one’ this hoof has a prolapsed digital cushion and frog…look at the swelling in the fetlock joint…time to get it out of those shoes.

      Yup but I was just looking at the wound. If I looked at every hoof critically, I’d never get anything done, lol (sadly).
